Blog post: Playing off HF & UHF RFID

Tuesday, January 7, 2014 - 17:51

Just like a radio needs to be tuned to different frequencies for different channels, RFID tags and readers must be of the same frequency in order to communicate. And, because RFID frequency determines the way the system will perform and operate, it is important for organisations to develop some understanding of these issues when evaluating RFID-based asset intelligence systems for their operations. So in our first post for 2014 [and the last in our series on today's smart asset IDs] we want to dig a little deeper into the world of RFID and examine the most commonly used frequencies in asset management to help organisations determine the best-suited system for their application. Blog post: Barcode vs. RFID

Thursday, October 17, 2013 - 09:13

In our last post, we kicked off a series about asset ID tags with a look at asset identification using barcodes. Today we pick up where we left off with an introduction to RFID and how the technology compares and contrasts with barcoding. RFIDs and barcodes are similar in that they are both data collection technologies which automate the process of collecting field data. Both forms of auto-ID have their pros and cons for asset tracking, asset management and asset lifecycle management, and either one may be better suited for your specific project.
